Last week I slipped out and and took a little field trip to LACMA to check out the Los Angeles: California Design Exhibit. People had been raving about it and it did not disappoint. It is the first major exhibit of California Mid Century Modern Design. With over 300 pieces of furniture and objects on display it is a really fun trip through design history.

I love that they even had clothing

Chair by John Kapel

I fell in love with this Gazelle chair by Dan Johnson. It reminded me of the chairs at the Amangani resort in Jackson Hole that I wrote about last fall.

They even gave homage to the playsuit! I've never met a playsuit I didn't like.

A fun outdoor vignette. I love the planter and actually own one that I use as an ice bucket

This might have been the coolest part of the show. It is an exact replica of the Eames House Living Room

I am a huge fan of the Crosby Street Hotel which is the creation of Kit and Tim Kemp, owners of Firmdale Hotels. In addition to the Crosby Street Hotel, Firmdale owns six properties throughout London, all designed by Kit Kemp personally. She seems to never run out of ideas or shy away from bold decisions. Kemp fearlessly uses color as if it were a neutral and mixes periods and styles with a refreshing disregard for the "rules". The end result is unexpected and just seems to work. Below are some of my favorite rooms from their seven properties. For more information on Firmdale Hotels follow this link.

A quick post to start off your weekend. Below are some things that are on my mind and inspiring my work on this gorgeous Friday afternoon.
I wish I knew who designed this room!! I just love how you would never think this furniture could go together let alone go with the objects on the table!! The cool chandelier is the icing on the cake for me. So unexpected and so pretty!

Call me crazy, but I am just loving these chairs! I am not usually a fan of cane furniture but the shape and design here is genius.

Above is the desinger Kenzo's Parisian Apartment from Vogue Living Australia. I love the bold use of color here!

Also From Vogue Living Australia. In a word, Heaven.
The above and below images come from the local Prudential Douglas Elliman website. This apartment is in Tribeca (price tag 22,000,000!) and recently went into contract. What could be more dream worthy than your own library or private pool in NYC. To check it out for yourself click here.
Have a great weekend!

Dining Table for 8
As most of you know Carolina George started as furniture business specializing in multi-functional furniture. So whenever we see a really cool and beautiful piece of multi-functional furniture we get very excited. The other day I stumbled across this desk from a company called Manoteca. They are an Italian company out of Bologna, and they repurpose old materials into one of a kind pieces. This piece was one of my favorites, an old door that that doubles as a desk and a dining table. I just love this! Enjoy xox

I love the compartments on the flip top

How great is the light that screws on?

I have always had a thing for lighting - something to do with how it completely changes the appearance and atmosphere of a space. When I was younger, I wanted to put giant, crystal chandeliers everywhere. I may have even proposed putting one in the bathroom to my mother (who wisely refused). I'd like to think that my taste has matured a bit since then, but I do still love me a good shiny light fixture. While studying at Parsons, one of my favorite classmates was lucky enough to secure an internship (which turned into a job) with a hip, young designer called Lindsey Adelman, who specialized in high-end lighting. She invited me over to Lindsey's studio one day to meet the design team and take a look at some works-in-progress. It has been a total love affair (solely on my part) between myself and Lindsey's lights ever since.
Lindsey is probably most recognized for her branching, bubbly fixtures. I absolutely love that something can look so architectural and delicate all at once. If you pick the fixture apart, you see it is made of small metal poles and connectors. The fluidity of the hand-blown glass pieces is a great contrast to the structure of the metal. The fixtures somehow appear very modern, though they are made with materials that are oddly traditional. (You can browse through client photos on her website, and some of my favorites are those when her quite current fixtures are used in an otherwise completely traditional space). Lindsey has taken her art form to the next level, adding treatments to her glass that include murrine patterns and metal foiling. During my visit, I had the pleasure of peeking at a fixture that was being made out of parts dipped in 14k gold. Pretty sure that may be as couture as it gets when it comes to lighting...
For those of you not yet able to order one of Lindsey's custom pieces, there is still hope! I was thrilled to find that she - quite generously - has a section on her website where she offers the blueprints and parts list for you to make one of her fixtures at home! It may not be made of hand-blown glass, but you can accomplish the same effect as an Adelman original. I have already decided that when I find my new apartment (in 27 days and counting...), I am going to use Lindsey's instructions to build a fabulous fixture of my own!
Check out some of Lindsey's gorgeous lights below!

We are so excited to share our first interiors spread with all of you! It feels like we have been waiting for this forever. We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out and are so thrilled that Elle Decor, one of out beloved interiors magazines, chose to include us in their "Rising Stars" Issue.
Sometime I open magazines and feel like everything inside although beautiful is totally unattainable on my budget. I love that in this issue, Elle Decor has selected some projects that illustrate decorating on a budget and mixing high and low. We try and do that a lot in our work and certainly in my own home I have no other choice, but to make that mixture work. Don't worry there are still some projects in there that will allow you to day dream with no boring budget woes! We hope you and enjoy and will pick up a copy at the newsstand! xox
