Although I love love love the color in the master bedroom that I shared with you last week the process of the dining room is perhaps more interesting. When we first began work on this project the clients had already painted their dining room red. That was the only definite in the project, the client knew she absolutely 100% wanted a red dining room. The entire house was a construction site except for this room which they had one of the contractor's painters lacquer in red. Needless to say over months of construction it was getting a bit beat up. Then in April about 6 weeks before they were scheduled to move in a pipe burst and caused a TERRIBLE leak that destroyed not only this room but much of the house. All the floors, millwork and builtins had to be redone. We were essentially back at square one. Luckily Kenneth had not begun any of his work so we decided to bring him in on the dining room as well. As they say every cloud has a silver lining because I think the dining room turned out to be fabulous. They still wanted the red dining room, but we toned down the color and added more depth and interest to it. Unfortunately you can't really see the different layers and brush strokes in the pictured. We went for a much deeper red the second time around. To get the final color Kenneth started with a deep aubergine color and then added coats of red. I actually loved the color in the first coat and want to find a place for it one of these days. See below the progression.

I just returned from an amazing two weeks in Turkey. Turkey and in particular Istanbul is by far and away one of my favorite places. There was inspiration to be found at every corner. One of my best finds from the trip was an amazing Ikat source. My husband I purchased a variety of silk velvet ikats for our new home as well as the more traditional weave shown below. I just love this fabric and it turned out to be our source of inspiration for our new range of finishes that will be unveiled at High Point in October. In addition to our existing colors and finishes, we will be offering our casegoods in the blue, yellow, green, and pink shown below. Our upholstered pieces will be available in the ikat as well as the antique gold velvet.
