When working with clients on a project we are constantly trying to incorporate interesting details and special elements into each room. We spend so much time pouring over fabrics that I find even if I have never actually used a fabric in a project I sometimes get tired of it because I have looked at it so many times either in our office or while combing through the D & D building. There are few that if I have to look at again I may scream and I have never even used them. I love a good David Hicks print, but my god I cannot look at that Diamond print on another piece of furniture, sorry!
I have a few tride and true patterned fabrics that I just love and never seem to tire of. However, generally I gravitate towards solids that have a rich texture or a good weight that I can take and somehow make my own. There is something that feels so timeless about doing it this way albeit less bold perhaps. This is why some of our new favorite people are the masterminds behind Penn and Fletcher embroidery. They can do ANYTHING, you name it from subtle embroidery to over the top broadway show beaded curtains! I have spent a lot of time in Turkey and India and return from every trip inspired and in awe of their incredible embroidery. I come back armed with books of patterns and samples of old fabrics and embroidery.
We were recently working with a client that we were going to do some embroidery on their Master Bedroom curtains. The plan was to have it done in India after months and months of back and fourth it was becoming more apparent that it was just no going to work, so we went on a hunt for someone that had the expertise to produce what we wanted locally and that's how we came to discover Penn and Fletcher. They are now a go to when it comes to new projects. They have an archive of fabulous designs to chose from or you can give them a sketch and they can re-create it on the fabric. Here are a few of our recent jobs with them. We have a few more in the works that I will share once they are done. We are doing a headboard with them as we speak that is going to be incredible!

This was a Quadrille fabric the both the client, Caroline and I LOVED! But we wanted it in this rich camel color and wanted to add texture so we had Penn and Fletcher embroider the pattern and linen silk blend.

Red silk thread on a white silk Rogers and Goffigon fabric. We loved how crisp and clean the white fabric felt against the dark red walls.

I was walking around Greenwich Village today and popped into O Cafe on 6th Avenue and 12th Street. They opened up about two months ago and I cannot wait to frequent this adorable coffee shop when I move to the neighborhood next month. I met the owner (camera shy) and the staff and they were beyond welcoming. I love local spots!! I was immediately drawn to the seating groups which are made of reclaimed materials. I particularly loved the stools with notches in the seat that create mobile and compact seating groups for the customers. For purchasing information, contact O Cafe on 6th Avenue. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

We love it when we are able to see where our pieces end up. Here is the directors chair in Green and White out door fabric in Florida!
