Designer Spotlight: Philipe Bestenheider

A few weeks ago I posted the following image. I fell in love with the chair at first sight, but having found it on tumblr, I could not figure out who was responsible for such a beautiful thing or how to find one of my own.

About two weeks later I was sourcing furniture for a new client and Charlotte, the latest addition to the CG team, found the chair on one of her favorite websites, www.architonic.com. As I am sure you can imagine, I was thrilled! I was even more excited to see the various iterations that are available.

And finally the original version below.

I had to know more about this Mr. Bestenheider. My search led me to his website where I found the following biography.

"Born 1971 in Sion, Switzerland, Philippe Bestenheider has a degree in architecture from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He worked for studios both in Switzerland and in the US. In 2000 he obtained a Masters degree in industrial design from Domus Academy Milan. From 2001 to 2006 he was Senior Designer at Patricia Urquiola’s office in Milan. In 2007 he opened his own studio, working between Switzerland and Milan. In June 2010 he received the Italian national award for innovation “premio dei premi” for the chair Nanook he had designed for Moroso. He designs for Moroso, de Sede, Pallucco, Fratelli Boffi, Varaschin, Frag and Galleria Nilufar. He has been teaching at Domus Academy Milan and at the University of Applied Sciences in Basel, Switzerland."

And now some of his other work....

The Nanook Chair, for which he received the Italian National Award for Innovation "Premio de Premi".
