Travel as Inspiration for New Fabric Designs
Thu, 2010-11-04 12:05 | by Caroline

My recent trip to Turkey was one of great inspiration and I took thousands of photos. Of those, nearly 900 were detail shots of architecture, textiles, and design elements. At the time I was not sure how or when I would use these images but I knew they would be a wonderful library of design ideas and act as a visual travelogue of an amazing trip.

Well, I ended up using the images sooner than expected. For the past few weeks we have been working on a variety of fabric designs based on the images that I took while I was traveling.  Great photos have a way of inspiring design at the most unexpected times.  Below are a few samples of early prototypes.  The test swatches arrive tomorrow and I just can't wait!!!

Travel as Inspiration: New Fabrics and Finishes

I just returned from an amazing two weeks in Turkey. Turkey and in particular Istanbul is by far and away one of my favorite places.  There was inspiration to be found at every corner.  One of my best finds from the trip was an amazing Ikat source.  My husband I purchased a variety of silk velvet ikats for our new home as well as the more traditional weave shown below. I just love this fabric and it turned out to be our source of inspiration for our new range of finishes that will be unveiled at High Point in October.  In addition to our existing colors and finishes, we will be offering our casegoods in the blue, yellow, green, and pink shown below. Our upholstered pieces will be available in the ikat as well as the antique gold velvet.
