WHO WE ARE
Caroline Cummings Rafferty
Caroline has helped to shape both the design and business directions of Carolina George since its inception in 2008. A graduate of Trinity College with a degree in art history, she combines a love for the arts with an intuitive business sense. She has rehabbed a 120-year-old building in Nolita in New York City, has designed furniture for Carolina George and has undertaken a number of interior design commissions. Her unique first-hand experiences with different aspects of creating the built environment are harnessed at Carolina George for the benefit of her clients.
Caroline is a driving force in the development of each piece of furniture at Carolina George and is also responsible for operations and finance at the company. She continues her art history studies as an MA/PhD candidate at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts.
Georgia Tapert Howe
A veteran of both the production and retail arms of interior and furniture design, Georgia worked for designers David Easton, Haynes-Roberts, and Mica Ertegun (MACII) before opening her namesake retail outfit in downtown Manhattan in 2007. As a result of her varied experience, Georgia understands what consumers are looking for and what drives their purchasing decisions.
A designer by trade and a traveler by heart, Georgia lives by the belief that good design should not be constrained by set boundaries or rules. Her progressive design philosophy is reflected in the myriad of styles and periods that influence each Carolina George piece and interior.
Georgia applies her design and retail experience, as well as a sharp eye for detail, in overseeing all marketing and sales initiatives for Carolina George.
WHAT WE DO
After years of discussing the idea of creating their own furniture and design business, Georgia and Caroline founded Carolina George in January of 2008. Carolina George specializes in high-quality functional furniture that incorporates artful design with convenient features essential for modern living. Carolina George also offers interior design services for clients both large and small. Recent projects include a Tribeca townhouse for a young family, a Greenwich village pre-war renovation, a Tribeca condo development and a Palm Beach House for a young bachelor.
